After an ugly start, Utah managed to lead at the break, 23-21. The Utes scored 18 points off the bench and 13 points off turnovers. The Aztecs out-rebounded Utah, 38-32 in a very physical match-up. The Utes recorded 13 assists, five blocks and four steals in the game.

San Diego State shot 27 percent from the field (15-of-55), 33 percent from behind the arc (4-of-12) and 61 percent from the free-throw line (11-of-18).
"I think San Diego State played hard," said Head Coach Elaine Elliott. "They are aggressive and athletic, and you have to match that when you play them. I think we did a lot better in the second half, we got in the paint and drove on them, we got some layups inside, and that's what you have to do if you're not shooting the ball. I have a lot of respect for San Diego State, they are an improved team. I thought our kids put the bad things behind them and made a good run in the second half." said Elliott.
