Get to Know Newcomer Laia Conesa

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Women's Basketball is preparing for the 2026-27 season with some new faces in the gym including transfer, Laia Conesa.

Conesa, a Barcelona, Spain, native joins the Utes after spending three seasons at Kansas. Last season with the Jayhawks, Conesa averaged 3.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while ranking second on the team with 36 steals. She shot 37.9% (47-124) from the field and shot 26.8% (11-41) from three.

Why did you choose Utah?

A: The culture. Obviously I want to win and Utah has a standard. I like the way they played too which is fast. I think I can help build the team and make an impact.

What's your core basketball memory?

A: Playing with my best friends growing up. I left home at 14 and was playing in my academy and that was so much fun and I learned a lot. I would also say when we got to play the USA in the World Cup.

What is your favorite thing about Salt Lake City so far?

A: I like to go on walks so I've really enjoyed the nature and the parks.

What is something about your basketball game that you're most proud of?

A: That I'm versatile. I can play a lot of positions and be effective.

What is something in your basketball game you want to get better at?

A: I'm a point guard so I like to create for others but I need to get better at looking for my shot more and taking it.

What is currently on your FYP?

A: Right now, the World Cup. I'm from Spain so it's a big deal right now. I also get a lot of videos of Barcelona. I get a little homesick sometimes so it's nice to see my city. I get a lot of food videos too.

What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?

A: It's going to sound a little strange but it's lemon. Lemon gelato from Europe. It's not the same as it is in America.

What would your walk-up song be?

A: Anything by Bad Bunny

What's a food from home that you can't get here, that you really miss?

A: In general it's sea food. Specifically, I miss paella. It's rice with seafood or meat. You mix it together with veggies too.

What is your favorite TV show?

A: Outerbanks

A: Competitive, Genuine and Passionate

What's one fact about yourself you want the world to know?

A: That I eat pasta every day.
