BOULDER, Colo. – The Utah women's basketball team came away with a huge nail biting victory as the Utes downed Colorado 67-64.
Utah is now 18-11 overall on the season and 9-8 in Big 12 play. The Utes were led by senior Lani White's 21 points. Reese Ross contributed 10 points. Chyra Evans was a key contributor tonight with seven points, six rebounds and four assists.
GAME SUMMARY Utah started the game off hot going on a 6-0 run and held Colorado scoreless for four complete minutes. The Buffs fought back and took a one point lead to end the first quarter with a 14-13 score.
Colorado was able to string together a 13-2 run in the second quarter to pull out for a nine point lead over Utah. The Utes were able to knock down a string of free throws and Samantha Crispe hit a clutch three to help close the deficit. Going into the halftime break, Utah trailed 33-26.
The Utes came out of halftime firing and went on a 6-0 run to tie the game back up at 33-33. Lani White then knocked down a three and a pair of free throws to give Utah the lead for the first time since early in the second quarter. Utah kept the energy alive and outscored Colorado 23-15 to claim a 49-48 lead going into the final quarter of play.
Utah started the fourth quarter hitting back-to-back from beyond the arc thanks to Maty Wilke and Grace Foster. The Utes also held the Buffs to a 2:30 scoring drought. The two teams battled the remainder of the fourth quarter but Utah was able to edge past Colorado outsourcing them 18-16 to pull out the 67-64 win.
LEADERS Utah had two Utes score in double figures and were led by senior Lani White's 21 points while Reese Ross contributed 10 points. White's 21 points marks her ninth 20-point game this season and she's scored in double figures in 15 of the last 17 games. Maty Wilke added nine points for the Utes.
Ross led the Utes with seven rebounds and shot a perfect game going 3-of-3 from the field, 1-of-1 from three and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
Chyra Evans was a key contributor for the Utes with seven points, six rebounds and four assists.
COMPARISON Utah shot 45.5% from the field while Colorado shot 34.4%. Utah went 50.0% from three knocking down 9-of-18 while Colorado shot 33.3% going 4-of-11. At the free-throw line, Utah shot 80.0% going 17-of-22 while Colorado shot 76.2% converting 16-of-21.
Utah had 12 assists on 2- made field goals while Colorado had eight assists on 22 made field goals. The Utes lost the rebounding battle as the Buffs pulled down 36 to the Utes' 30.
UP NEXT Utah will then return to the Huntsman Center for their final home game of the 2025-26 regular season against Arizona Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. Utah will honor four seniors in Lani White, Maty Wilke, Samantha Crispe and Alyssa Blanck.
