TUCSON, ARIZ. -
The Utah Utes fell to 7-7 on the season with an 8-7 loss against the Arizona Wildcats. Utah led 4-3 after four innings, but allowed the Wildcats (12-7) four runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh. Utah scored once in the ninth, but it wasn't enough.
Nate Weese led the way going 3-for-5 with his fourth homer of the season. He also added two RBI and a run scored. Sam Swenson added two hits, a double and a triple, on his way to a 2-for-4 night.
Ryan Bailey (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after allowing seven earned runs in 4.2 innings of work. Arizona starter Marc Kaiser (4-1) got the win allowing five earned runs over five innings.
The Wildcats committed five errors, but the Utes failed to take advantage. Shelley Duncan tied an Arizona record with his three homers.
The two teams play the second game of the series tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. (MST).
