Former Ute Named 2001 Pioneer League All-Star

SALT LAKE CITY--Sam Swenson, Utah's career hits leader, was named a Pioneer Rookie Advanced League All-Star in August of 2001. Swenson joined the league after signing as a free agent with the Provo Angels. During his rookie campaign with Provo, he ranked first in slugging percentage (.631) and fourth in home runs (13) and on base percentage (.438) in the league. The Utah native's contribution helped the Angels win their division (24-14) in their debut season. Swenson graduated from the U. in 2001 ranked as the career leader in five statistical categories.
