Salt Lake City - Utah senior Sunny Smith was picked up by the Akron Racers of the Women's Professional Softball League, Tues., June 13.
Smith led Utah's offense with a school record 18 home runs, 60 RBI and a .374 batting average. She was named Louisville Slugger second-team All-American, a member of the All-West Region team, the Mountain West Conference All-Tournament team and was a MWC All-Conference team selection. Smith virtually rewrote Utah's single season record books this past year and has made her mark among Utah's career leaders as well.
The Akron Racers were formed from a Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF) expansion draft, the annual WPF draft, and from a signing of free agents. The players are from top NCAA programs like Arizona, UCLA, Iowa, Utah and Michigan.
