GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Utah baseball team dropped its final game to Mesa State in an 11-3 contest today bringing their weekend tally to 1-4. The Utes scored three runs on eight hits with one error while allowing the Mavericks 11 runs on nine hits with one error. The loss brings Utah to a 7-12 season record as they head into conference play against San Diego State March 10-12.
Mesa State led the game scoring four runs in the third inning. Utah came back to score one run in the fifth and two in the sixth but secummed when the Mavericks scored seven runs in the remaining three innings.
Centerfielder Sam Swenson led the Utes behind the plate hitting 2-of-4 including a double and a home run, his fourth this season. Pitcher Jason Wylie picks up the loss for the Utes bringing his season record to 0-1. The starter pitched two innings in the game allowing one hit, but giving up four runs.
