SAN DIEGO - The Utah baseball team dropped the last game of a four-game series to San Diego in a 2-3 contest today. The Utes round out the weekend going 1-3 and bring their season record to 6-9.
The Utes scored two runs on five hits with one error and the Toreros scored three runs on seven hits with one error. San Diego led the game scoring its three runs in the first three innings of play. The Utes rallied back scoring two runs in the top of the eighth, but were unable to overcome the deficit.
Freshman Donnie Saba was 2-for-3 in the game slamming two doubles and scoring one run. Pitcher Benson Barrera earned the loss for the Utes. The sophomore pitched the first two innings for Utah facing 14 batters, allowing four hits and striking out two batters. Junior Brandon Ballard came in for five innings of relief. He faced 17 batters and recorded three strikeouts.
The Utes return to action March 3-5 when they travel to Grand Junction, Colo., to take-on Mesa State College in a three-game series.
