SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -
Senior first baseman Sandy Rhea and sophomore center fielder Jenny Monson were named to the 1998 all-Western Athletic Conference softball teams on Tuesday.
Rhea, a native of South Jordan, Utah, was named to the first-team all-WAC for the second-consecutive year. Rhea led the WAC with 34 stolen bases. She was also eighth in hitting (.372), fifth in runs (49), sixth in doubles (11) and sixth in hits (67).
Monson, also a native of South Jordan, Utah, was named second-team all-WAC. It is the first time Monson has earned all-conference recognition. Monson ranked 16th in the WAC in batting average (.343), eighth in home runs (6), fifth in RBI (37), ninth in runs (35), fourth in triples (6) and fourth in stolen bases (15).
Utah, not awarded a bid to the 32-team NCAA Tournament, finished its season with a 36-21 record and place third in the WAC with a 19-13 record.
