FULLERTON, Calif. - Liberty scored two runs in the top of the eighth to defeat Utah 3-2 on Friday afternoon at Cal State Fullerton's Kia Klassic. The Utes lost both games on Thursday to go 0-3 in Pool C play and will enter bracket play on Saturday.
The Utes got a run across in the bottom of the first as Amberly Johnson singled and was driven in by Stacey Farnwoth. Liberty scored a run in the top of the fifth to send the game into extra innings. Utah rallied for a run in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Jenny Monson to score Jeanette Herbert.
Liberty (12-13) outhit Utah 6-5 while the Utes committed two errors. Kristin Arbogast gave up one earned run off of five hits and struck out seven in eight innings to fall to 5-9.
Utah (12-15) also lost to Cal State Fullerton 12-0 late Thursday night after losing to Arizona State 5-0 on Thursday afternoon.
