The collegiate skiing world will descend on the Beehive State this week for the 2026 National Collegiate Skiing Championships, hosted by the University of Utah and running from Wednesday through Saturday, March 11-14.
Alpine races will take place in Park City, Utah, from the Spencer F. Eccles Olympic Mountain Center at the Utah Olympic Park. Nordic events will be over in Midway, Utah, at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center.
Action begins with giant slalom on Wednesday, a 7.5K classic interval start on Thursday, slalom on Friday and a 20K freestyle mass start to cap off the slate on Saturday.
Wednesday's GS has been moved up to an 8:45 a.m. first run; the other three race days are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. MT.
Utah has won 17 team national championships in its history, including four of the last five NCAA crowns. Sixteen of the Utes' titles are under the NCAA umbrella, ranking third all-time behind Denver (24) and Colorado (20). Utah also has 89 individual champions in its history, also ranking third.
This year's national championship was originally scheduled to take place in Bozeman, Montana, but was shifted to Utah due to insufficient snowfall in Montana. This week will mark the eighth time the state of Utah has hosted the NCAA Skiing Championships and first since 2022. In addition, the meet was held in Utah in 1957, '63, '81, '91, 2000 and '14.
The Lineup
The Utes qualified 12 athletes for the meet, making Utah one of seven schools to bring a full squad. Colorado, Denver and Montana State joined Utah in the West in qualifying 12 athletes, while Dartmouth, Middlebury and Vermont hit the maximum out East.
The alpine roster is headlined by sophomore and NCAA defending men's GS champion
Johs Braathen Herland. Herland, a two-time All-RMISA First Team selection, additionally hauled in conference MVP honors this season in men's slalom. He owns 10 podiums and six wins in 2026, with four wins coming in slalom. He is the first Utah skier (men's or women's) since at least 2019 to win the first four alpine races of an RMISA season.
On the Nordic side,
Erica Lavén leads the charge as the RMISA MVP in women's classic. She has won seven of her eight starts this season, including all five in classic—most recently a West Region individual title in the discipline. The sophomore added a commanding victory on home snow during the Utah Invitational 15K classic, winning that mass start by 54 seconds. Additionally, Lavén was the 2025 NCAA Individual Champion in the women's 7.5K classic.
