The women of Utah have won nine consecutive meets against BYU, including a 169-131 win a season ago thanks to 11 gold medals, while the men are looking to snap a two-meet drought. Utah and BYU faced off against one another at the Big 12 West Championship last month, with both Ute squads scoring more than their rivals.
Looking Back
The Utes faced a tough test against SMU last time out, and despite four gold medals from the women's side and seven from the men, Utah dropped both sides of the dual meet.
Hayley Smith led the Utah women with 18 points on Saturday thanks to wins in the 500 and 100 Free and
Erin Palmer added 13 points on a first-place result in the 100 Breast and a second-place finish in the 100 Free. On the men's side,
Nick Chirafisi also won gold in the 500 and 1000 Free to lead the way with 18 points while
Evan VanBrocklin added 14 points thanks to a gold in the 200 Fly and a bronze in the 100 Free.
On the diving boards, Utah was led by senior captains
Elias Petersen and
Kathryn Grant. Grant took gold on both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards while Petersen won on 1-meter for the fourth time this season.
Big Scores Earn Big 12 Awards
Utah has earned a total of 10 Big 12 Conference weekly awards this season:
Oct. 30, 2025
Nov. 20, 2025
Dec. 11, 2025
Dec. 30, 2025
Jan. 15, 2026
Feb. 5, 2026
Since joining the Big 12 prior to last season, Utah has claimed 20 weekly awards, 13 of which have come from divers. Petersen leads all Utes with five weekly awards, all Diver of the Week nods, and was recognized as the conference's Diver of the Year a season ago.
Among the Best
The Utes were represented in the women's, men's and combined team rankings when the US Professional Diving Coaches Association (US PDCA) released its second in-season poll last month. The women's team checked in at No. 19 nationally, the combined squad was ranked No. 21 and the men's side received votes.
Utah sits as the second-highest-ranked Big 12 school on the women's side, three spots behind No. 16 Kansas, and the third-highest-ranked men's squad behind No. 11 Arizona and RV TCU. As a combined program, Utah is second in the conference behind only No. 14 Arizona.
