Utes Fall 5-2 to Grand Canyon

LAS VEGAS – The Utah men's tennis team fell to Grand Canyon 5-2 in Las Vegas.

DOUBLES
The Lopes secured the doubles point advantage to start off the match. Grand Canyon picked up a win at the No. 2 and No. 3 spot to start things off. In the No. 1 spot, Dante Teramo and Balthazar Huss were in a tight match trailing 4-5 against Grand Canyon's Daniel Jankoski and Brice Patoux before it was left unfinished.

SINGLES
In singles action, Emmett Potter came out strong picking up a 6-4, 6-4 win over the Lopes Daniel Jankoski. Simeon Terziev was not far behind, tying the match 2-2 with his 6-4, 6-3 victory over Andreas Loizas. Grand Canyon then picked up a win in the No. 5 spot.

At the No. 4 spot, Lorenzo Esquici took his match with Diordan Macababbad into three sets. Esquici won the first set 6-4, but ultimately Macababbad closed out the second set 6-4 and the third set 6-2 to add one to GCU's overall total score.

On the No. 1 court, Dante Teramo took his match with Tristan Berard into three sets as well. Berard won the first set 6-3, and Teramo matched that by winning the second set 6-2. Ultimately, Berard closed out the third set 6-4.

At the No. 6 spot, AJ Deem faced off against GCU's Charlie Pade. Deem fought hard, falling in the first set 6-4, but responded by winning the second set 7-6. The third set was a close with a 10-6 score but GCU was able to finish the last singles match to give the Lopes the 5-2 victory.

Utah is now 3-8 overall on the season.

UP NEXT
The Utes will continue their time in Las Vegas, Nev. by taking on UNLV on March 1. Utah will then travel back to Salt Lake City where they will take on Montana St. on March 7.
