COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Incoming Utah Volleyball freshman
Devyn Wiest has been
named to USA Volleyball's 18-member training team for the FIVB Girls U19 World Championship, taking place in July in Croatia and Serbia. Wiest has been invited to train in Colorado Springs with the team from June 1-7, 2025, to compete for a spot on the 12-member team that will travel to the World Championships.
A 6'-2" outside hitter from Peoria, Ariz., Wiest was a member of the 2024 U19 National Team that won gold at the 2024 NORECA Continental Championship.
"This is such a great opportunity for Devyn," said Utah head coach
Beth Launiere. "Her involvement in the USA pipeline is a testament to her talent and hard work. She had a tremendous spring with us after graduating early from high school, which will be a great benefit for her with the U19 team. Her Arizona Storm club team and coaches prepared her well, and a semester in our gym gives her that much more exposure to volleyball at the next level. We couldn't be more excited for her and this experience, and wish her well in the USA gym."
Wiest earned Under Armour All-America honors as a senior, leading O'Connell High School to a 30-3 record, and helped her team advance to the second round of the state tournament. She was named All-Conference 6A Player of the Year, tallying 189 kills (4.6) per set, with 129 digs and 25 aces
As a junior in 2023 Wiest was named Desert Valley Regional Player of the Year, en route to leading O'Connor to the Arizona state title. She played club volleyball for AZ Storm Elite with fellow Utah signee Dyborrah Johnson. Wiest was part of three club national championship teams and one runner-up squad, and twice was named an All-American. She also competed in beach volleyball, winning three state championships. Wiest received top academic honors all four years of high school, graduating in the top 10 percent of her class.
The U.S. Girls U19 National Team is the reigning world champion, having won the event in 2023. At the end of June 1-7 training camp, the 12 athletes selected for the final competition roster will have a second phase of preparation in the Netherlands, from June 26-30, 2025.
