SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Volleyball kept their momentum going from theirÂ
win over No. 24 Dayton the night before with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 25-14) sweep of Lafayette on Saturday morning at the Huntsman Center.
Â
Utah's second win of the 2025 season was marked by a career best five aces from senior setter
Leah Wilton-LaBoy and a .500 hitting percentage from junior outside hitter
Kamryn Gibadlo off 15 kills and 28 attempts.
Freshman middle blocker
Lana Mijacic also made a memorable debut with a service ace on her first collegiate serve on a day where the Utes posted 10 service aces as a team.
SET ONE
Set one started close with Lafayette taking an early 3-1 lead over the Utes, but Mijacic's first ace began the momentum shift in Utah's favor.
Emrie Moea'i and
Devyn Wiest added three kills between them getting the Utes tied 6-6 with the Leopard's before Wiest added her own service ace to give Utah the lead.
Wilton-LaBoy started her record day in the first set with back-to-back service aces putting the Utes up 12-10. Wiest and
Levani Key-Powell both added to Utah's ace count, helping to put away the first set, 25-17.
Â
SET TWO
Wilton-LaBoy wasted little time posting her third ace of the match in the first serve of the second set, while Moea'i got in on the fun later in the set to give the Utes an 8-5 advantage.
Wilton-LaBoy ended set two with two more service aces to break her old career best of four while assisting on the last two points for the set win, 25-16.
SET THREE
Utah wasted little time jumping ahead of the Leopards with a fiery 5-0 start to the final set of the match. Wilton-LaBoy had the final serve of the game resulting in an attack error for Lafayette that gave the Utes the 25-14 third set win, and match final.
