No. 5 Seed Utah Opens Big 12 Championship Play Against No. 4 Seed UCF

SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah men's tennis team is set to open postseason play at the Big 12 Championships in Waco, Texas, on Friday, April 16. No. 5 seed Utah will face No. 4 seed UCF at 6 p.m. MT.

SCOUTING THE KNIGHTS
No. 18 UCF enters the Big 12 Championships with a 19-7 overall record and a 5-3 mark in conference play. The Utes and Knights have met twice previously, with UCF winning both matchups, including a 4-1 victory earlier this season in March.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Utah closed out the regular season with a 4-2 road win over rival BYU. Utah set the tone by claiming the doubles point, with Berk Bugarikj and Max Relic winning on court two and Reid Jarvis and Dante Teramo securing a 7-6(4) victory at the top spot.
In singles, Teramo opened with a straight-set win on court three, but BYU answered with wins on courts five and one to even the match. Emmett Potter regained the lead for Utah with a 6-4, 7-6(3) win on court four, and Reid Jarvis clinched the match in dramatic fashion, winning a third-set tiebreak on court two.
UTES IN THE RANKS
Utah is currently ranked No. 48 in the nation in the latest ITA poll, continuing to build momentum throughout the season. In doubles, Reid Jarvis and Dante Teramo have earned national recognition, coming in at No. 67 in the ITA doubles rankings. The duo has been a strong presence at the top of Utah's doubles lineup, delivering key victories throughout the season.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
Utah Head Coach Roeland Brateanu, the 2023 Pac-12 Coach of the Year and a five-time ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year, leads the Utes for his eleventh season this spring. Under Brateanu's leadership, the Utah men captured the 2023 Pac-12 Regular Season title and secured their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, advancing to its second consecutive second round appearance with a win over Old Dominion. The Utes finished with a 24-6 overall record and a No. 1 ranking in the ITA Mountain Region. Brateanu currently holds a 183-106 overall record at Utah.
