AZUSA, Calif. – Grad transfer
Clara Mayfield saw herself inserted into the Utah record books late Thursday night after running the eighth-fastest 10,000m time by any Ute at the Bryan Clay Invitational inside Cougar Athletic Stadium.
Karli Branch got the weekend going for Utah, competing in the 3000m steeplechase for the first time this season, posting a mark of 11:07.5.
In the 10k, Mayfield crossed the finished line with a mark of 33:38.65 – which was about nine seconds better than her previous best of 33:47.45. She also had some familiar faces running alongside her with
Morgan Jensen and
McKaylie Caesar both running unattached. Jensen, who is redshirting this outdoor season, ran a new lifetime best time of 33:02.69 while Caesar posted a 33: 44.94.
Saydi Anderson closed out a late night from the first day of the distance carnival in her heat of the 10,000m race with a time of 35:06.27 for a new personal best. It was almost a year to the date that Anderson previously set her 10k PR at the same meet in 2023.
Utah's first race starting on Friday is scheduled for 11:10 a.m. (MDT) in the 5000m Open B race with
Ellie Lundgreen and
Maddie Reed in the first heat followed by
Chloe Kockler in the second heat.
