MATCH WEEK
Utah Volleyball is set to host the annual Utah Classic this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9, at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Utes open the weekend against Tennessee State on Friday at 12 p.m. MT before playing UC Santa Barbara later that night at 7 p.m. MT. Utah wraps up the weekend against San Francisco on Saturday at 4 p.m. MT in the final match of the tournament. All matches will be live streamed

Allie Olsen is coming off a season where she recorded a .363 hitting percentage, which ranked as the sixth-best percentage in a single season in program history. Olsen is off to a hot start for her senior season as she has hit above .500 in three of the five matches so far. Olsen recorded a career-high 12 kills on Tuesday at Portland State where she hit .556 to help the team, while the match before she recorded nine kills on .533 hitting. The senior from Great Falls, Mont., is hitting .386 to start the 2023 season.

VANESSA'S GOT IT
Starting libero
Vanessa Ramirez is leading the Utah defense once again as she has done the previous three seasons. She is fourth in the Pac-12 with 4.22 digs per set and has recorded double-digit digs in four of the five matches this season. Ramirez tallied 22 digs against NC State for her first match of 20-plus digs this season and her 10
th overall. She has now posted 65 matches with double-digit digs as Utah's starting libero. Ramirez is coming off a season that saw her lead the team in digs 27 of the 31 matches, while she finished third in the Pac-12 with 4.04 digs per set. She has led the team in digs every match this season.

CAREER DAYS
On Tuesday at Portland State, Utah received multiple career high efforts from standout individual performances. Starting setter
Viktoria Wahlgren posted a career-best 46 assists in the four-set match, as well as a career high three aces. Â
Kamry Bailey (10),
Allie Olsen (12) and
Kamryn Gibadlo (13) all earned career highs in kills also. Defensively,
Lauren Jardine posted a career-best seven digs, while Bailey earned her first career double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.
UP NEXT
Utah hits the road for the final time of non-conference play, heading to BYU on Wednesday, Sept. 13. The Utes and Cougars will play at 7 p.m. MT at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo on ESPN+. Rounding out the non-conference slate will be a home match on Friday, Sept. 15, against Weber State at 7 p.m. MT in Salt Lake City. The match will have post-game autographs with the team, while the 2001 Sweet 16 team will be recognized during match break. Â
SCOUTING TENNESSEE STATE
Tennessee State has fallen to an 0-4 start with its most recent losses coming by sweeps from Ole Miss and Lipscomb. The Tigers also fell to Cleveland State and Murray State in the opening week of action. Tennessee State is led by Kennedy Davis, who is third in the Ohio Valley Conference with 1.00 blocks per set, while Celianiz Cabranes is fourth in the conference with 4.14 digs per set.

SCOUTING UC SANTA BARBARA
UC Santa Barbara has started the season with a 5-1 record, which includes sweeps over New Mexico State, Denver, North Florida and San Diego State. The Gauchos took a five-set win over Pepperdine, while dropping a match to sixth-ranked Oregon. Michelle Ohwobete leads the team with 3.60 kills per set, which ranks second in the Big West Conference, while Macall Peed leads the conference and is 19
th in the nation with 5.15 digs per set. Andi Kreiling is first in the Big West and 22
nd in the nation with a .461 hitting percentage as well.

SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco sits at 2-4 overall entering the weekend in Salt Lake City with wins over New Mexico and UC Irvine. The Dons dropped matches to Seton Hall, UTEP, New Mexico State and Arizona State. Maria Petkova is fourth in the West Coast Conference with 3.25 kills per set, while Abby Wadas is also fourth in the conference with 3.88 digs per set. Additionally, Lindsay Oldendorf is third in the conference and 71
st in the nation with a .395 hitting percentage.
