ON THE BLOCKS
The outdoor season continues for the Women of Utah this week as they head to the Bay Area for the Stanford Invitational while sending six to compete in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on the campus of SF State. Of those competing for Utah this weekend,
Morgan Jensen and
Emily Venters both set new PRs at the same meet last season in the 5000m with Venters posting the fourth-fastest time in program history last year (15:47.79).
Â
Erin Palmer, a freshman who also competes on the Utah swim team, will make her track & field debut this Friday in the 400m dash.
Bella Williams will also be making her outdoor season debut in the 5000m race while
Simone Plourde and Venters toe the line in their first outdoor race just three weeks after garnering All-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Â
Karli Branch (1500m),
Malia Overton (100m),
Bri Rinn (800m),
Megan Rose (100m),
Erin Vringer (1500m) and
Millie Wilcox (800m) will be the six competing for Utah at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
Utah's 4x400m relay team was the star of the show last weekend as it closed out the Aztec Invitational by beating out USC to capture the event title and broke the school record with a run of 3:36.93. In addition,
Shana Van Elderen also moved up one spot on the all-time list at Utah in the long jump when she recorded a leap of 12.19m (40-0). Utah's 4x400m relay time of 3:36.93 currently sits as the 11th best time in the NCAA – which would be a qualifying mark.
Â
PROGRESS REPORT
After posting the program's best finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships (21st) coupled with a historic 12th-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, Utah currently sits at No. 11 in the recently published USTFCCCA Terry Crawford Program of the Year standings through indoor season.
