Kolbi Sims jumps from fourth to second all-time in 60m hurdles.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. & SEATTLE — The Utah track and field team closed out its indoor regular season schedule on Friday sending Kolbi Sims back to Seattle while head coach Kyle Kepler took a DMR squad back east to compete at the JDL DMR Invite.Â
At the JDL DMR, Utah stepped on the track against a tough field that included three teams who own a time that ranks in the top-25 nationally. Recording a season-best time of 11:17.81, the Utah DMR squad comprised of Cailtin Faust, Jackie Martin, Brooke Manson and Sarah Newton, finished in fifth-place while Wake Forest (11:08.90) took home the win. Virginia Tech (11:10.18) secured second and Duke (11:13.71) finished in third while Temple just nudged the Utes by three-seconds (11:14.87) for fourth. N.C. State rounded out the entries placing sixth (11:22.52).Â
"Brooke Manson, our 800m runner, just ran phenomenal and ran the fastest 800m leg of anyone here," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "I thought everybody else gave great efforts, ran well and ran within themselves. I'm really proud of this group as we made a last second change and they responded well." Â Â
*NCAA flat track conversion has not been applied to the DMR times.Â
Looking to get a feel for the venue where the MPSF Championships will be held, Sims opened up the UW Last Chance competing in the long jump where she leaped a distance of 5.36m (17'7.0") on her fourth attempt.Â
In the 60m hurdles, Sims earned a new PR with a mark of 8.58 to place second right behind Washington's Aaliyah Wilson (8.35) and jumped from fourth to second all-time in school history. Top cap off the day, Sims ran in the 800m race and registered a time of 2:20.12 — good for seventh.Â
The postseason begins next weekend with the Utes traveling back to Seattle for the MPSF Championships Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29.
