The Utes move three into school record books at first day of Don Kirby.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of Utah track and field team opened its weekend of competition at the Don Kirby Invite on Thursday at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Ruby Jane Mathewson won her heat in the 400m race, running a tight one against New Mexico's Bailey Brion nudging her out by a tenth of a second for the win. Mathewson crossed the finish line in a PR time of 59.58 to secure 33rd overall.
In the 600m event, the top three finishers all ran in the same heat as Whitney Hessler and Oneillia Fuller finished one after the other to secure the second and third-place overall finishes, respectively. Hessler finished in 1:32.46 while Fuller posted a PR mark of 1:32.56, topping her previous by two seconds. These times move Hessler into fourth and Fuller into sixth all-time at Utah.
In the final event of the day, Skyler Blair led the Utes in the 200m dash running a time of 24.95 to finish in 38th while Lauren O'Banion won her heat with a PR performance of 25.18 to place 49th and jump into eighth all-time.
