The Utes send a plethora of athletes across the west for big three-meet weekend.

Starting Block
The Utah track and field team splits up three different ways across the west this weekend to compete at the Don Kirby Invite, UW Husky Classic and Weber State Invite Feb. 13-15. The Don Kirby will take place Thursday and Friday at the Albuquerque Convention Center, giving the Utes a chance to compete at the venue where the NCAA Championships (March 13-14) will be held. Running at the Don Kirby will be the short distance and relay runners for Utah. On Friday and Saturday, the Utes will send two different groups of middle/long distance runners to the UW Husky Classic and locally at the Weber State Invite. Â Â
Kolbi Sims will once again kick off the weekend for the Utes on Thursday at the Don Kirby Invite competing in the long and high jump events. The long jump is slated to begin at 1 p.m. (MT) while the high jump will begin 30 minutes later at 1:30 p.m. (MT).Â
At the Husky Classic, the women of Utah will start with the 3k race on Friday at 4:15 p.m. (MT) and start on Saturday at Weber State with the mile event beginning at 10:40 a.m. (MT).Â

TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN
Utah owns three times that rank inside the top 50 of the NCAA after the completion of last weekend's meets. Caitilin Faust sits in 36th (2:08.06) in the 800m event with the time she posted at the UW Invite while the DMR squad of Sarah Newton, Faust, Brooke Manson and Sarah Feeny rank 11th (11:19.13) with the mark they earned in Seattle. After Sims' historic performance in the pentathlon at the Texas Tech Invite, she now ranks 24th in the NCAA.Â
In the MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation), the women of Utah own 17 different marks that rank inside the top-30 as well.Â

LAST TIME OUT
The Utes competed for the first time at the Texas Tech Multis/Invite, running at the state-of-the-art Sports Performance Center. Sims got off to a hot start competing in her first pentathlon of the season and tied the school record hall of famer Amanda Feigt post back in 2007 with 3,891 points. Finishing in the top-10 of every event, Sims earned a seventh-place overall finish. The following day, Skyler Blair and Jackie Martin highlighted for Utah, posting huge PRs in the 600m race and moved themselves into third and seventh all-time, respectively. Â
Utah closed out competition at Texas Tech on Saturday with the 4x400m relay team running a season-best 3:44.29 and moved into third all-time. Blair added to her great weekend of racing in the 200m event, recording another PR and moved herself from fifth to second on the all-time list.Â
Utah also competed at the UW Invite with Emma Christensen being the lone Ute running on Friday where she recorded a 15 second PR (17:56.57) in the 5k race. Whitney Hessler recorded a huge PR in the mile race, clocking in under five minutes for the second time this season against a field that totaled 60 runners by crossing the finish line at 4:55.00.Â
In the 800m, Faust ran a person-best time of 2:08.06 for 13th and moved herself into eighth all-time. The Utes wrapped up the UW Invite competing in the DMR, posting a mark of 11:19.13 to capture third-place in a loaded field. Making up the DMR squad for the Utes were Sarah Newton, Faust, Brooke Manson and making her indoor debut Sarah Feeny. BYU took home the event title clocking a time of 10:53.95 while meet host Washington secured second (10:56.23).Â
UP NEXT
Following the three meets this weekend, the Utes will wrap up the regular indoor season competing at the UW Last Chance in Seattle and JDL DMR Invite in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Friday, February 21.Â
LOOKING FORWARD
Subsequent to the UW Last Chance and JDL DMR meets, Utah will enter the indoor championship season making its fourth trip to Seattle to compete at the MPSF Championships held at the familiar Dempsey Indoor Feb. 28-29. From there, the Utes will travel back to Albuquerque, N.M., for the NCAA Indoor Championships March 13-14. Â
