PROVO, Utah - Utah Swimming and Diving heads to Provo this weekend to take on BYU. The Utes and Cougars will begin with the diving portion on Friday at 6 p.m., while swimming starts the following morning at 11 a.m.
In the Pool
The women's swim team defeated Washington State and Nevada in successive dual meets and followed it up with a win against Denver on Senior Day.
Against WSU and NU,
Sara McClendon started strong in the 1000 free (10:19.40), winning the event for the Utes. She was back on top again in the 500 free with a time of 5:01.48.
Charity Pittard and
Audrey Reimer were also successful in multiple events.
Pittard placed first in the 200 breast (2:17.03) and the 200 IM (2:05.49). Reimer rolled past her competition in the 100 back (56.03) and 200 back (2:00.19). For her efforts, Pittard was named the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Week.
Other winners on the evening included
Emma Broome in the 100 fly with a time of 56.42 and
Christina Pick in the 200 fly, touching the wall in 2:06.60.
In the final event of the evening, Reimer,
Maddie Woznick,
Kayla Miller and
Leyre Casarin finished on top in the 400 free relay (3:27.02). Casarin had Utah's top times in both the 50 free (24.01) and 100 free (51.52).
Against DU, the women's team set the tone by starting with four-straight wins in individual events. McClendon won the 1000 free in 10:15.24 and would later take the 500 free in 5:00.94.
After
Kyla Yetter notched the top time in the 200 free, Reimer rolled in the 100 back. The sophomore was back in the pool to win the 200 back later in the day.
Pittard was the top performer for Utah, winning the 100 breast (1:04.62), 200 breast (2:18.05) and 400 IM (4:29.89). Casarin was another winner of multiple events, capturing the 50 free (24.06) and 100 free (52.07). Reimer, Casarin, Woznick and senior
Sarah Lott closed the afternoon with a win in the 400 free relay (3:27.06).
On the Boards
Utah diving was most recently in Los Angeles for the UCLA Invitational.
Tony Chen earned Pac-12 Diver of the Week honors by capturing the 3-meter springboard title with a score of 742.50 on the first day of competition. The California native capped the meet with a score of 608.70 and fourth-place finish in the 1-meter springboard.
Reigning Pac-12 Diver of the Month, Luke McDivitt, turned in another outstanding showing against some of the nation's top competition. On Saturday, McDivitt took third in the platform event.
