Women's Tennis Wins Nail Biter Against LMU

SALT LAKE CITY - The 46th ranked University of Utah women's tennis team was able to record a victory earlier today, as they downed Loyola Marymount with a final score of 4-3. With this victory, the Utes will improve to an overall record of 12-8 on the season.
"I don't feel like we played particularly well overall, but I feel like we competed well. This allowed us to come away with a good win over a good team," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "I can't say enough about Madison, Whitney and Leah, with how they competed today in singles. Leah played a great match, and Whitney and Madison just out competed their opponents, they were really helpful."
The Utes were able to start the match off strong, as they were able to earn the doubles point against the Lions. Whitney Hekking and Leah Heimuli started things off on court No. 2, as they defeated Siobhan Anderson and Lillian Gabrielsen with a final score of 6-2. Brianna Chisholm and Madison Tattini then sealed then sealed the doubles point with a win at the No. 1 spot, topping 65th ranked Veronika Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek with a score of 6-4.
In singles, Heimuli kept things rolling with a victory at the No. 6 position, as she quickly defeated Camila Tumosa with a score of 6-0, 6-4. With the Utes then down 2-3 against LMU, Tattini provided a much needed victory on the No. 2 court, as she bested Eva Marie Voracek in a competitive match, 7-6, 6-4. Then at the No. 5 spot with things tied up 3-3, Hekking provided the final victory needed in order to defeat LMU, as she beat out Yesica De Lucas with a score of 5-7, 6-0, 7-6, to give Utah the 4-3 win.
The University of Utah women's tennis team will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, as they will be taking on the 3rd overall ranked Stanford Cardinal. This match against Stanford is set to take place at 1:30 p.m. MT at the Eccles Tennis Center.
