FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Utah women's swim team got its Pac-12 Championship push off to a great start this evening, setting a new school record in the 200 medley relay.
"I am really proud of our medley's performance and breaking the school record," head coach
Joe Dykstra said. "Unfortunately, we missed the NCAA provisional cut by one-hundredth of a second."

The quartet of
Emma Lawless,
Darby Wayner,
Aryanna Fernandes and
Gillian St. John finished the event in 1:37.40. That time was more than a second faster than the previous mark, set earlier this season at the Minnesota Invitational by Lawless,
Genny Robertson, Fernandes and St. John.
In the lone diving event, freshman Tony Chen reached the finals and finished eighth overall in the one meter. His final round score of 283.45 was four points higher than his preliminary round marks. Daniel Theriault placed 12th with Rylan Little, also competing at his first Pac-12 Championships, took 14th.
The first night of competition is the lightest of the four as action picks up tomorrow with a pair of diving events and finals in the 50 free, 500 free, 200 IM and 200 free relay.
"We are ready to swim fast and dive well tomorrow," Dykstra added. "We were very good tonight but made some mistakes that we have to clean up."
