PULLMAN, Wash. - The Utah women's swim team closed the regular season with an impressive 167-93 win at Washington State on Saturday. The Utes dominated proceedings by taking 13 of the 14 events at Gibb Pool.
"This was a great win for us on the road," head coach
Joe Dykstra said. "I am so proud of how we were able to step up despite being shorthanded due to illnesses. I want to highlight two things today. Our seniors ended their careers with five straight dual wins and we were able to break a pool record in the 200 medley relay."
The aforementioned Ute contingent consisted of
Emma Lawless,
Darby Wayner,
Aryanna Fernandes and
Gillian St. John and they were able to win the event in 1:41.46 Â
Wayner would also win the 100 breast (1:03.09) while St. John and Fernandes combined to win four events. St. John swam to victory in the 50 free (23.51) and 100 free (51.24) while Fernandes flew to the finish line in the 200 fly (2:02.48) and 100 fly (55.03).
Fernandes and St. John were also part of the winning 400 free relay along with
Ianire Casarin and
Sarah Lott. Those two Utes also impressed individually. Lott won both the 100 and 200 back events with Casarin coasting to victory in the 200 free (1:51.90).
A fourth Ute was able to win multiple individual events as
Sara McClendon captured a pair of distance events, the 500 and 1000 free. Senior
Jordan Anderson also capped her final Pac-12 dual meet with a win in the 400 IM (4:23.10).
The Utah women will now prepare for the Pac-12 Championships, Feb. 27 – Mar. 2 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash. They will be competing along with both Ute diving teams
