SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis team was selected as one of eight women's teams to compete in the 70th Blue Gray National Tennis Classic, which is widely recognized as one of the top tennis events in the country. Matches will be played Feb. 23-24 at Lagoon Park and O'Connor Tennis Center in Montgomery, Ala. The Utes join Alabama, Auburn, Denver, Illinois, UAB, Wake Forest, and Yale in the tournament.

Utah Notes
The Utes are coming off of a weekend consisting of four wins, including a 7-0 win over Utah State, a 4-3 win over Denver, and a 4-1 win over Weber State. Their most recent victory came against Boise State on Sunday, where the Utes topped the Broncos with a final score of 4-3. Against Boise State, The Utes started the day off with taking an early advantage by earning the doubles point.
Brianna Chisholm and
Margo Pletcher notched the first victory after defeating Anja Dokic and Wiktoria Nosek at the No. 1 spot, 6-1.
Alexia Petrovic and
Jena Cheng then kept things rolling with a win on the No. 3 court, beating out Hanna Kantenwein and Vanessa Timm with a score of 6-2.
Whitney Turley was then able to record the first win in singles for the Utes, edging out Vanessa Timm with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.
Taylor Calton then followed with a win of her own on the No. 5 court, defeating Nancy Menjivar, 6-3, 7-5. To finish off the match and give the Utah women's tennis team the victory,
Alexia Petrovic was victorious at the No. 1 spot over Anja Dokic, with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Following the Blue Gray tournament, the Utes will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to face off against the University of New Mexico Lobos on March 2
nd. The Utes will then begin Pac-12 play in Salt Lake City against Arizona State on March 9
th at 1:30 p.m., followed by a match against the University of Arizona on March 11
th at 11 a.m., both matches will be held at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.
