Utes Fall Short in First Round of Blue Gray Tennis Classic

MONTGOMERY, ALA. – In the first round of the Blue Gray Tennis Classic, the University of Utah women's tennis team dropped a close match to the University of Alabama, with a final score of 4-3.
"This was a tough match against a very good Crimson Tide team in their backyard," said head coach Mat Iandolo. "It was very close and we will grow from this experience."
Against Alabama, the Utes dropped the doubles point as Brianna Chisholm and Margo Pletcher were defeated at the No. 1 spot by Andie Daniell and Ann Selim, 6-3. Then on the No. 3 court, Taylor Calton and Whitney Turley were defeated by Alabama's Smith Hinton and Jacqueline Pelletier with a final score of 7-6.
Three Utes were able to win in singles play, including Alexia Petrovic at the No. 1 position, who recorded a win against Andie Danielle, 6-3, 6-4. On the No. 3 court, Margo Pletcher came in with the second win, besting Alabama's Luca Fabian with a score of 6-2, 6-0. The final win for the Utes came from Jena Cheng, who beat out Jacqueine Pelletier at the No. 4 spot with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
The Utes then started their match against the University of Alabama Birmingham, taking the doubles point. The doubles team consisting of Alexia Petrovic Jena Cheng defeated Dominika Hrabalova and Sophie Dodds at the No. 2 position, with a final score of 6-4. Taylor Calton and Whitney Turley then sealed the doubles point at the No. 3 spot, defeating Jana Hecking and Megan Bertrands, 6-0.
