SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah women's tennis team notched a 4-3 win over the Boise State Broncos today, going 4-0 on the weekend, and moving to an overall record of 6-1.
"We were lucky to get away with a win today against an inspired underdog," said head coach
Mat Iandolo. "I tip my cap to the Broncos we will get better from this."
The Utes started the day off with taking an early advantage by earning the doubles point.
Brianna Chisholm and
Margo Pletcher notched the first victory after defeating Anja Dokic and Wiktoria Nosek at the No. 1 spot, 6-1.
Alexia Petrovic and
Jena Cheng then kept things rolling with a win on the No. 3 court, beating out Hanna Kantenwein and Vanessa Timm with a score of 6-2.
Whitney Turley was then able to record the first win in singles for the Utes, edging out Vanessa Timm with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.
Taylor Calton then followed with a win of her own on the No. 5 court, defeating Nancy Menjivar, 6-3, 7-5. To finish off the match and give the Utah women's tennis team the victory,
Alexia Petrovic was victorious at the No. 1 spot over Anja Dokic, with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
The Utes will be back in action next week, as they will travel to the annual Blue Gray Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama, which will be held Feb. 22-23, and will be an all-day event both days.
