PROVO, Utah – The Utah men's golf team returns to action this coming Monday and Tuesday, April 10-11, competing at the PING Cougar Classic, which will take place at Riverside Country Club in Provo.
"I am excited to see what we can do this week," said Utah head coach
Garrett Clegg. "We have been playing a lot of golf the past few days and the team is comfortable with Riverside Country Club, since it is just down the road from us."
The Utes will be one of 11 teams competing next week, including tournament host BYU, Alabama-Birmingham, Boise State, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Utah Valley and Westminster.
Riverside Country Club will play at par-72 and 7,142 yards with 36 holes to be played on Monday and final-round action (18 holes) to be played on Tuesday. The Utes will be paired with USF and LMU on Monday, teeing off from the No. 10 tee, beginning at 8:30.
Utah will feature the same line-up it did last week, when the squad
finished in third-place at the Duck Invitational. Golfers competing as a team will include senior
Gentry Hicks, sophomores
Kyler Dunkle and
Nathan Wunderli, along with freshmen
Jordan Costello and
Mitchell Schow.
Peyton Hastings will compete as an individual for the Utes next week.
"Mitchell has had a really good week of practice and we are looking for him to play better than he has been playing as of late," said Clegg. "Kyler made a putter change and is hoping that will spark some better play. He has been hitting the ball well, but not getting much out of his rounds. Hopefully the change will be what he needs to have a great week in Provo."
Utah registered its fourth top-three finish last week, combining to card a three-round score of 15-over par (867). Costello led the way finishing in a tie for 10th-place at 1-over par (214). Meanwhile, Wunderli became Utah's first golfer since 2012 to register an ace as he recorded a hole-in-one during third-round play.
Utah's four top-three finishes on the season are the most in a single season since collecting four top-three performances back in 2006-07.
