JACKSON, N.H. - Martin Bergström won the NCAA championship in the men's 10-km classic as the Utah ski team moved into the team lead on the second day of the NCAA Skiing Championships, held in New Hampshire at the Jackson Ski Touring Foundation.
The Utes had four total All-Americans on the day, including a silver for
Merete Myrseth in the women's 5-km race and a bronze for
Martin Mikkelsen in the men's race.
Utah leads the team standings with 301.5 points over RMISA rivals Denver (265) and Colorado (240) in second and third, respectively. Montana State dropped to fourth with 177 points while Dartmouth is fifth (170).
It was Bergström's first NCAA title in his first season at Utah and his first win of the season. The Utes have 73 individual national championships all-time, and have won at least one individual title in the last eight national championship meets.
Mikkelsen was third for his first career All-America honor and his first podium of the year.
Kevin Bolger finished 15th for the Utes, helping lead the team to a race-high 90 points.
For the women, it was Myrseth's fifth podium of the season.
Guro Jordheim also earned All-America honors with a fifth-place finish, her seventh top-five finish of the year. Both are also in their first season at Utah. Natalia Müeller finished 21st for the Utes as Utah tallied 76 race points to finish second among all teams.
