SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - After one round of play at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, the Utah men's golf team carded a combined total of 10-over (298) and head into the second round tied for 9
th place at the par-72, 7,107-yard at Scottsdale's Outlaw Course.
"I thought we played well today, Kyler also did a very great job of leading the team," said Utah head coach Garret Clegg. "Tomorrow we are just going to have to tighten things up a little and come out ready to play. We didn't have any birdies in the first round either, that's going to have to be something we will have to improve on."
Purdue and St. Mary's tops the field of 12 teams after tying for first-place with a score of 7-under (281) through the first round. Kansas the followed in third place (-6, 282), with Michigan and Alabama tying for fourth-place to round out the top five teams carding a score of 3-under (285).
Sophomore
Kyler Dunkle led the way for the Utes, shooting 1-under 71 and sitting in a tie for 9
th-place after the first round of play. Senior
Gentry Hicks carded a first-round score of 3-over par 75, and currently sits in a tie for 45
th-place.
Freshmen
Mitchell Schow and
Jordan Costello shot 4-over 76 in the first round, and both currently sit in a tie for 51
st-place heading into the second round. Sophomore
Nathan Wunderli rounded out Utah's scoring through the first round with an 18-hole score of 7-over 79 sitting in a tie for 60
th-place, respectively.
Play will resume tomorrow morning with the second-round setting to begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. MST.
