SALT LAKE CITY - Utah men's swimming and diving will close out its regular season this Saturday, Feb. 18 as it takes on No. 13 USC. The meet will begin at 11 a.m. PT at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center in Los Angeles, Calif.
"We are really excited to have our final regular season men's meet against one of the top teams in the NCAA," said Utah head coach
Joe Dykstra. "Both USC and ourselves have swam very fast at this dual-meet over the past few years and I expect that will continue this Saturday in Los Angeles."
UTAH NOTES
The Utes hosted BYU at the end of January and came out on top, 189-109.
Freshman
Matteo Sogne took first in the 1,000 free. He came away with a time of 9:35.18. Sogne also took first in the 500 free (4:38.95). In Pac-12 rankings, he has the 16th fastest time in the 1,000 and the 18th fastest in the 500.
Daniel McArthur and
Jack Burton also took first in their respective events during the meet. McArthur was first in the 100 back (49.25) as well as the 200 back (1:49.48). Burton took first in the 100 breast (56.88) and in the 200 breast (2:06.01).
Burton has five first-place finishes in the 200 breast and four in the 100 breast. He has the seventh-fastest time in the Pac-12 and ranks 29th in the NCAA. He set his top time of 1:56.67 earlier in the season at the Ohio State Invitational. His time of 53.84 in the 100 breast is the 13th fastest in the Pac-12.
To finish out the BYU meet, the team of Paul Unger, Burton,
Colten Montgomery and
McKay King took first in the 200 medley relay. They touched in at 1:29.49.
LAST TIME AGAINST USC
The men hosted USC last season and were defeated by the Trojans, 177-123.
Nolan Rogers was first in the 400 IM touching in at 3:58.53.
Burton would take second in the 100 breast (55.44) and the 200 breast (2:00.63). McArthur also took second in the 200 back coming away with a time of 1:47.70.
Ben Scott finished third in the 200 fly (1:49.77) as well as the 100 fly (50.30).
