Opening Statement...
"We are coming off a good win on Monday against Purdue and a good win at Weber State. We are doing well. I was really proud of our game on Monday. We beat a good Purdue team, that is an NCAA team. I think they got second in the Big Ten last year and they were the second-best defensive team in their conference too and lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to Notre Dame in overtime. They are a really good team and I have a ton of respect for how they play, how they are coached and their tradition. Winning on the road at Weber State was important to do. I think we convincingly won and had a fun game and then it was on to the next. I think the key right now coming off a big win like Purdue is to not relax. I think that is the next phase in building your program. If we want to get to the top-half of the Pac-12, we have to continue to want to get better. I am sensing from my team that they are not satisfied with one win, so we are just going to keep better. It is a young season, we are only four games in and there is a lot of basketball left to play."
On the sacrifice the team makes over the holidays to stay and train...
"Basketball is one of the sports where you are competing through both semesters, so you don't really get that down time as a student-athlete. So you kind of give up holidays and that is one of the sacrifices. You don't get time off for Thanksgiving and you only go home for about three or four days for Christmas, which is unique to the average college student. It definitely is a sacrifice, but that is just kind of how it is. I played college basketball and then coaching is all I've done, so you just don't get those holidays. We try to create an atmosphere of family around our program. We know kids get homesick around the holidays, but we try to create those moments as a team and a program family too."
On the duo of Megan Huff and Emily Potter...
"That is a pretty dynamic duo. I said coming into the year that I thought that Potter would generate so much attention, which she has, that it could open things up for Huff, which it has. But I also think that Huff is good enough to stand on her own two feet too. You have a 6-6 Potter that has so much experience, gets so much attention from other teams in scouts that it opens things up for Huff. But then you have Huff that is 6-3, athletic and can score from the three-point line and around the basket. I think that has opened up our scoring and shooting game as well. This year we have kids that can shoot the ball a little bit better and that makes a difference, so I think offensively we are much more well-rounded and we are being more efficient. Our turnovers are cut in half from last year and our shooting percentages are up, but we are only four games in and there is a lot of basketball left to be played."
On Tanaeya BoClair coming off the bench...
"Our balance in depth is one of our strengths. Who starts, who doesn't, to me isn't that big of a deal, but I think Tanaeya has done a tremendous job. I have a lot of respect for her as a senior. She started the first two games for us and then I brought her in and said that I thought it would be better for everybody, her included, if we brought her in off the bench and she said 'great, whatever the team needs, whatever we need to do to win.' I think she has had her two best games statistically and as far as impact goes coming off the bench. So, that is an example of that it doesn't matter if you start, you are going to have an impact if you are an impactful player whenever you come into the game. I am proud of her for her response to that. It shows that she cares about winning more than she cares about her own pride."
