GIRDWOOD, Alaska and JACKSON, N.H. -
Sam Dupratt won the men's giant slalom to lead the Utah ski team on the final day of the alpine portion of the UAA Invite. The Utes had four total skiers in the top 10 as Utah stands second overall in the team standings by just a point behind meet leader Denver.
In Nordic, the Utes continued their off weekend from RMISA racing at the University of New Hampshire Carnival, with
Merete Myrseth winning the women's 15-km freestyle and four total skiers earning top-five finishes. The races do not count towards the skiers regular season results.
It was Dupratt's third win of the season. He has not finished lower than fourth in the five giant slalom races this year.
Endre Bjertness placed fourth for his fourth top-five finish of the year.
Joergen Brath finished 12th to help give the Utes a race-high 90 points.
Dominic Demschar placed 15th with
Ty Sprock 20th.
Martin Grasic did not finish his first run while
Sasha Zaitsoff did not start.
For the women,
Roni Remme finished fourth while
Julie Mohagen was fifth, the fifth top-five finish of the year for both skiers.
Chloe Fausa placed 11th while
Lauren Samuels was 15th with
Sabine Krautgasser 19th.
Abby Ghent did not finish her second run.
Utah sits a point behind meet leader Denver with 318 points. New Mexico is third with 307 points while Montana State (271) and Colorado (250) round out the top five.
In Nordic, behind Myrseth in the women's 15-km classic was
Guro Jordheim in fourth.
Natalia Müller finished eighth to give the Utes three skiers in the top 10, while
Leah Lange placed 13th. In the men's 20-km race, the Utes also had three skiers in the top 10.
Martin Mikkelsen finished on the podium with a third-place run with
Martin Bergström in fourth and
Kevin Bolger placed eighth on the day.
Oscar Ivars was 22nd.
New Hampshire hosts the 2017 NCAA Championships, giving the Utes a chance to check out the trails that will be used for the competition, as well as see how they stack up against skiers from the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association (EISA).
The next action for the Utes is the Nordic portions of the Seawolf and UAA Invitationals, held Feb. 7-8 and Feb. 11-12 in Girdwood, Alaska. The alpine teams next compete at the RMISA Championships, beginning on Feb. 24.
