SALT LAKE CITY -- Both Paige Crozon and Emily Potter turned in double-doubles, but the University of Utah women's basketball fell short in a 72-54 decision to No. 15 Stanford on Senior Day Sunday in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Utah (15-12, 7-9 Pac-12) out-rebounded Stanford, 49-48. The Utes have out-rebounded their foes in 20 of 27 games this season.
Crozon turned in her 10th double-double of the season (also of her career) and recorded a team-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds to lead the Utes against the Cardinal. Crozon, a Humboldt, Saskatchewan native, has reached double-digits in points 18 times this season and 27 times in her career. She has had 10 career games with 10 or more rebounds.
Potter contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season and the 17th of her career. Potter, a Winnipeg, Manitoba, native has scored 10 or more points for the 24th time this season and 43 times during her career. She also has 13 games with at least 10 boards.
In addition to her double-double, Potter tied her career high with seven blocks. She owns the school record with 72 blocks in 2015-16 and is already in seventh place in school history with 115 career blocks.
Senior point guard Danielle Rodriguez was the third Ute in double-figures for points as she scored 10 to go along with a season-high eight rebounds. Rodriguez, a Downey, Calif, native, registered her 40th career double-figure scoring game and her 13th of the season. She also dished out two assists with a pair of steals.
Sophomore wing Tanaeya Boclair scored nine points and hauled in seven rebounds.
Utah raced out to a 9-4 lead before Stanford would use a 9-0 run to grab a 13-9 advantage and would carry a 13-11 lead after one.
The Utes came back to tie the game four more times (9, 13, 18, 20) in the second quarter before the Cardinal went on an 11-2 spurt to earn a 31-22 lead. Utah scored the final five points of the half, all scored by Rodriguez, to bring the Utes back within four after two quarters, 31-27. Rodriguez and Potter posted a team-high five points apiece. Rodriguez also grabbed four rebounds to go with an assist, block and steal in the second frame alone.
The Cardinal scored the first five points of the second half to extend to a 12-point advantage (40-28) before the Utes went on a 7-0 run to cut their deficit to five (40-35). Unfortunately, Stanford was able to build a 14-point lead by the end of the frame (54-40) and would go on to take the 72-54 victory.
No. 15 Stanford (22-6, 12-4 Pac-12) was led by 18 points and nine rebounds by Erica McCall.
The Utes close out their regular-season schedule next weekend in the Evergreen State, beginning at Washington on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m. PT. Rick Bouillon will have the radio call on 105.1 FM with live stats at godawgs.com.
