Stanford, Calif. - Utah swimming and diving suffered losses to Stanford this evening in Pac-12 action. The men's team was defeated 164-125 and the women's side fell 177-112.
No. 8 Stanford (M) 164, No.17 Utah (M) 125
Bence Kiraly picked up where he left off yesterday, capturing the 1000 free with a time of 9:07.93. Swimming in the event for the first time this season, Kiraly set a new 2015-16 Pac-12 mark by almost three seconds. His teammate Jay Bolsinger was fifth in the event with a time of 9:37.80.
Kiraly also captured the 500 free with the best time in the Pac-12 this season (4:25.76), Fellow Ute Peter Kotson placed fifth in the same event with a time of 4:38.32.
Paul Ungur won the 100 back with a time of 49.32 seconds. Daniel McArthur placed third in 50.11, an improvement from yesterday's performance at Cal, setting a new personal mark. In the 200 back, Kristian Kron captured the event in 1:48.21 and McArthur finished in 1:49.43. Like the 100, McArthur, improved from yesterday, shaving over a second of his time
Kron placed second in the 200 free, seven-hundredths of a second behind the winner, and Brendan Nguyen was fifth with a time of 1:43.07. In the 200 breast, Jack Burton got Utah a second-place finish (2:02.97) while Ganem Tebet achieved a season PR (2:05.51).
Burton was also third in the 100 breast with a time of 56.49 and Keanu Interone earned a top-five finish in 58.62. Kristian Almberg, Quillan Oak and Peter Kotson placed third, fourth and fifth in the 50 free with times of 21.49, 22.12 and 22.52. In the 100 free, Almberg and Dave Fraser snagged points with respective times of 46.89 and 47.35
Luis Macias and Ben Scott finished fourth and fifth in the 200 fly with times of 1:51.41 and 1:52.72 respectively. Scott shaved a second off his time from yesterday for a season PR. In the 100 fly, Ungur placed fourth at 50.04 and Fraser earned fifth in 50.90 seconds.
In the 200 medley relay, Ungur, Burton, Korn and Kiraly placed third with a time of 1:31.55 with Utah's two other relay teams filling out the top five. On the diving platform, Josiah Purss was third in the three-meter with a score of 339.38 and Jacob Crayne was fourth (325.73).
The men's team is off until November 7 when it welcomes UNLV to Ute Natatorium.
No. 31 Stanford (W) 177, No. 26 Utah (W) 112
In the pool, Petra Soininen won the 100 fly in 57.92 seconds. Darby Wayner was second in 58.20 and Jenna Marsh rounded out the Ute contingent with a time of 58.59. Another winner on the evening was diver Amanda Casillas who won the three-meter event with a score of 276.45. Teammates Lauren Hall and Madison Cock placed second and third with scores of 234.60 and 205.73.
In the 200 breast, Stina Colleou was third with a season-best time of 2:15.31. Genevieve Robertson, who currently owns the top time in the Pac-12, was fifth, tapping in at 2:18.55. In the 100 breast, Colleou narrowly missed out on second place with a time of 1:03.81. Robertson snagged a point with a time of 1:04.87.
Jordan Anderson was third in the 500 free, setting a new personal best (5:00.01) that moved her to fourth in the Pac-12. Kat Wickham picked up a top-five finish in the event with a time of 5:12.81.
Wickham also garnered points in the 1000 free, finishing third (10:36.85). Isabella Kearns (10:46.89) and Paolina Carnevale (10:47:04) rounded out the top five. In the 200 fly, Anderson was third in a time of 2:04.66 with Kearns hitting the wall fourth with a time of 2:06.28.
Gillian St. John and Dorien Butter earned top-five marks in the 50 free with times of 24.44 and 24.50. Butter placed third in the 100 free with a time of 52.82 and St. John also registered a point, clocking in at 54.07. In the 200 free, Hailey Pabst and Waymer scored points for the Utes with respective times of 1:55.94 and 1:56.5
In the 100 back, Megan Kawaguchi was the top Utah swimmer with a time of 57.22 and Shayla Archer was right behind her with a time of 58.03. Kawaguchi was third in the 200 back clocking in at 2:07.34. Pabst (2:10.04) and Archer (2:12.41) were right behind her in the scoring and for Archer, it was a season best in the event.
In the 200 medley relay, Archer, Wayner, Soininen and Marsh finished third in a time of 1:45.14. Utah's two other relays teams finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Utah's women's team hosts Boise State and Florida Gulf Coast in two weeks at Ute Natatorium.
