This Week's Matchup
Utah soccer (8-5-4, 1-5-2) hopes to have some tricks up its sleeve in order to earn a pair of treats this weekend. The Utes host Arizona on Halloween (Fri.) at 1 p.m. and then welcome ASU for Senior Day on Sunday at 2 p.m. Both matches will be telecast on the Pac-12 Networks.
Senior Class Set for Sendoff
The octet of Darby Broeker, Sarah Duncan, Ashton Hall, Avery Jenkins, Monica Larsen, Cheyanne Mulcock, Jill Robison and Katie Taylor will play their final home games this weekend for the Utes. This group of players was the first to navigate the Pac-12 waters and after narrowly missing the postseason during its first two years, broke through last year with a third-place finish and a NCAA Championship berth.
Utah Suffers Setbacks
The Utes lost a pair of matches to nationally-ranked Washington and Washington State this past weekend. The Utes were shutout on Friday evening, losing 1-0 to the 18th-ranked Huskies. On Sunday, Utah got goals from Jenkins and Natalie Vukic, her first in Pac-12 play, but allowed four tallies in the first half during a loss to the No. 24 Cougars.
Luke Named Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week ... Again
Utah soccer goalkeeper Lindsey Luke was named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week for Sept. 22-28. This was the second-straight weekly award for the junior and gave her a record five conference honors for her career.
Luke made six saves as the Utes drew with No. 4 Stanford. Despite not keeping the clean sheet, she has seven shutouts this season and 20 for her career.
The NSCAA All-Region selection currently ranks 21st in the nation with an 87.3 save percentage. She also ranks 35th in the nation with a 0.63 goals-against average.
Luke set the Utah single-season shutout mark last season with nine blankings. She finished with a goals-against average of 0.57, 19th in the nation, and her save percentage (.894) ranked fifth nationally.
Utah's Preseason Pac-12 Picks
Along with the returning Luke, three other Utes received preseason honors; Megan Trabert, Katie Rigby and Hall
Trabert started every game at center back for Utah last season and had a knack for scoring in big games. She is currently tied for second on the team with three goals this year.
Rigby missed almost all of 2012 due to injury but battled back and played in every contest for the Utes in 2013. After scoring the game-winner against Oregon last season, her first collegiate goal, she has three more tallies this season. Rigby has also notched four assists, giving her 10 points, tied for second on the team.
Hall started 16 games for Utah and finished second on the team in scoring with 11 points. She is currently out for the season due to an injury.
Taylor's Tenure One for the Books
Taylor, a NSCAA All-Region selection last season has flown under the radar for most of her collegiate career but make no mistake, she has been an integral part to the recent success of Utah soccer.
In this, her senior season, the midfielder currently leads the Utes in goals and points. Her six helpers this season gives her 16 for her career, fourth in the Pac-12 and fifth all-time at Utah. She is currently five assists away from third place, trailing Staci Burt (1996-99) and Shauna Gurr-Bingham (1999-2002).
Taylor started every game for the Utes and led the team in goals and points last season, helping them to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006 and sixth time overall.
The Davis, Utah native also led the Utes in scoring as a sophomore with four goals and four assists.
Ute Fans Showing Up in Record Numbers
Utah is currently third to UCLA (1,539) and Stanford (1,353) in the Pac-12 in home attendance with an average of 1,315 fans per contest. The Utes recently set the school record with over 2,500 fans in attendance for the annual rivalry contest with BYU.
Best Start Ever
With no losses in their first 10 matches, the Utes got off to the best start in their program's history. The best record for any Ute team was the 2003 squad that went 16-2-2 en route to an undefeated Mountain West Conference title and a NCAA Tournament berth.
Utah Tough at Home
Utah owned an 18-match unbeaten streak at Ute Field prior to last week's losses. Since joining the Pac-12, Utah is 25-6-6 at home.

The Utes added nine newcomers to the team for the 2014 season including six true freshmen; Tamaryn Braun, Madi Clarkson, Mariah Elmer, July Gentry, Janie Kearl and Vukic.
Utah also brought in three transfers; Mikayla Elmer, Mariah's sister, from Portland, Audrey Gibb from Oregon State and Addie Jensen from Columbia University.

Scouting this Weekend's Opposition
Arizona is 9-5-2 but winless in its last four matches. Last weekend, the Wildcats tied with California, 1-1, after losing 3-2 to No. 4 Stanford in overtime. UA is led by freshman Gabi Stoian as the midfielder has racked up 10 goals and seven assists in her first collegiate season. On the defensive side, the Wildcats' experienced group of defenders in front of senior goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman has led to six shutouts.
Arizona State is 9-4-4 after dropping both games last week, 1-0 to the Golden Bears and 2-0 to the Cardinal. Junior Cali Farquharson has scored 12 goals this season as freshman Aly Moon and junior Mackenzie Semerad each pace the squad with four assists. Senior goalkeeper Chandler Morris, who was named the Pac-12's Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 20, is currently in second place on ASU's career shutouts list with 18.
