Reno, Nev. - The University of Utah women's cross country team finished first overall with 20 points at the Nevada Twilight. The Utes had a dominating performance with five athletes finishing in the top-10 overall spots.
"We did what we expected to do," said Utah head coach Kyle Kepler. "I thought we handled our business well and had a nice effort."
In her first race in three years, senior Alyssa Abbott clocked a four-kilometer time of 14:41 earning first overall. Finishing second was Rebekah Winterton with a time of 15:02. Freshman Susannah Hurst earned third overall with a time of 15:07. Hilary Troutner (15:10) and Lauren Mills (15:33) rounded out the final scoring runners for the Utes with fourth and tenth overall finishes.
Lucy Yates competed in her first race in two years and finished 13th with a time of 15:48. Katelyn Stringfellow clocked a time of 15:59 earning 15th place. Nikki Dotter (16:04), Alexis Davis (17:11), and Brooke Casagranda (18:39) finished 17th, 24th, and 28th, respectively for the Utes.
"We are getting better, but we still have a long ways to go," stated Kepler.
The Utes will continue their season on Sept. 16 at the BYU Autumn Classic in Provo, Utah.
