Boulder City, Nev. - Led by freshman Susannah Hurst, the University of Utah women's cross country team collected 33 points to finish first at the UNLV Desert Invitational.
"We dominated the meet like we should have," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "This was a very challenging course and our kids responded well. We did exactly what we needed to do and gave some of our younger athletes experience."
In a great performance, Hurst was the first collegiate and second overall athlete to cross the finish line with a time of 18:23. Finishing second for the Utes and fifth overall was Hilary Troutner with a time of 18:42.
"Susannah did a great job up front and Hilary had a bounce back performance after her rough race at the Stanford Invitational last week," Kepler said.
Freshman Macee Nielson was the third Ute and eighth overall to cross the line with a time of 18:53. Nicole Rietz posted an 11th-place finish with a time of 19:19 and Katelyn Stringfellow rounded out the scoring runners with her time of 19:23 (12th place).
Returning from a foot injury was sophomore AuraLea Fain who finished with a time of 19:32 (17th place). Lauren Mills (19:24) and Lucy Yates (19:53) claimed the 14th and 20th spots overall, for the Utes.
