What are you looking forward to most about competing in the regional at home?
"I am looking forward to the competition and having my (track & field) teammates cheering for the cross country team. My mom is flying out [from Michigan] and will be here. I am excited because I train here every day. I don't have to think about an altitude adjustment, hotels, traveling or time changes. I feel in control."
Gail in Spanish Fork, Utah
What is the competition going to look like on Saturday?
"The competition is going to be tough. There are going to be 20 women's teams competing, including three nationally-ranked teams as well as four nationally-ranked men's teams. Everyone is vying for a spot at nationals. It is a do-or-die race because our season is over if we do not make it to nationals so it should be extremely competitive."
Linda in Salt Lake City, Utah
How has your sophomore year at Utah been different than you freshman year?
"My sophomore year is a complete 180 from my freshman year. This year, I have a better understanding of college athletics and academics. I moved from Michigan so it was a challenging adjustment. This year, I know my place on the team. I have seen and competed against very good competition. I understand how important nutrition is and how to eat healthy. I have surrounded myself with positive influences and have a better group of teammates and friends."
Hannah in Lincoln, Neb.
What is the toughest thing about balancing school and athletics?
"The toughest part is keeping them separate. When I am in class, I try not to think about practice and the same for when I am at practice. In doing so, I am a better athlete and better student. I allow myself a break from each one by completely focusing at what I am doing at that moment."
Gary in Logan, Utah
Have you had a chance to run on the McCarthey Family Track & Field yet? How do you like the new surface?
"We have had a few practices on the track. I have been staring at construction for quite a few months now so it is exciting that it is finally completed. The surface is awesome and is a nice break from running on sidewalks and in parks. Everyone in the community is welcome to try it out."
