Iandolo Receives Don Reddish Coach of the Year Award

SALT LAKE CITY- Ute women's tennis head coach Mat Iandolo was recognized as the winner of the 2009-10 Don B. Reddish Coach of the Year Award, last Saturday at Utah's home football game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
"I'm really proud to receive the award," stated Iandolo. "When I came here over three years ago I definitely had some goals in mind for myself and the program. I just wanted to make the people I work for and the people in the tennis community proud, and I think this award helps show that I might be doing that.
"I feel that I've got the best assistant coach in the country," Iandolo said of Ruth Ann Allen. "We've done a good job of recruiting and I've got a great group of dedicated young women."
In his third year as Utah's head coach in 2009-10, Iandolo led the team to its first regular season conference championship since 1983, and its first as a member of the MWC. The Utes also earned their first NCAA tournament invitation since 1998. Utah finished the regular season with a 17-8 overall record, including a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play.
Iandolo was also named the 2010 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year, becoming the first Ute women's tennis head coach to receive a conference award since 1991. It was the third conference coach of the year in his career, including two in the Big Ten (1998 and 2003) as the head coach at Purdue.
This fall, under Iandolo's guidance, junior Anastasia Putlina and sophomore Paige Miles won the doubles crown at the USTA/ITA Mountain Region Tournament. It is the Utes' first regional title since 1991, when current Utah assistant coach Ruth Ann (Stevens) Allen won the doubles crown with partner Lisa Salvatierra.
