LAS CRUCES, N.M. - The University of Utah Men's golf team placed 14th at the Herb Wimberly Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., during its final tournament of the fall season. The Utes posted a three-round score of 901 (299-313-289) and senior Derek Adams made an impressive climb to 16th place after being tied for 35th after the first two rounds on Monday.
Finishing at just five-over-par, Adams posted a score of 218 (76-74-68), while fellow senior Mike Branca climbed to from Monday's 56th-place performance to finish tied for 33rd with a score of 223 (75-78-70). Other notable Ute finishers were Jeff Kitches (76-81-73-230, 66th), Ben Bankhead (79-80-78-237, tied for 76th), Chase Hite (72-87-80-239, 79th), and individual player Cody Hughes (81-85-75-241, tied for 80th).
The Utes will break for the winter and begin their spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate, Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2011, in Tucson, Ariz.
