SALT LAKE CITY - The No. 62-ranked University of Utah men's tennis team (11-6) defeated Montana State (8-7), 5-2. John Taylor clinched the match for the Utes from the No. 4 spot.

"We are fortunate to come up with a win against a very scrappy Montana State squad," commented head coach F.D. Robbins. "Our guys fought hard and competed well and it is good to win a close match before conference play begins."

Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano began the match with a, 8-4, win in the No. 3 slot topping Esteban Ferrero and Myles Perkins. In the No. 2 spot Timmy Allin and Taylor downed Alberto Fuentes and Corey Smith, 9-7, clinching the doubles point for Utah.

Wes Hancock and Othman Zerouali-Ouariti topped Jakub Dybala and Pawel Turzanski 8-4, in the No. 1 position, completing the doubles sweep for the Utes.

Utah's success continued in singles beginning with Jason Smits in the No. 5 position with a win over Fuentes, 6-1, 6-0, giving Utah a, 2-0, lead.

In the No. 6 slot Allin topped David Kovas, 6-2, 6-1, setting the Utes up to clinch the match when the Bobcats earned their first point in the No. 2 spot with Zerouali-Ouariti falling to Smith, 6-4, 6-2.

With the match at, 3-1, Taylor downed Keyes in the No. 4 position, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, clinching the match for Utah at, 4-1.

In the No. 1 spot Hancock fell to Dybala in three sets, 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-1. Benito Suriano topped Turzanski in three tough sets, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(9), giving Utah a, 5-2, win.

Utah will host Loyola Marymount Saturday, March 28 at the Eccles Tennis Center beginning at 4 p.m.
