San Diego, Calif. - The University of Utah men's tennis team (10-5) topped Yale (9-5), 5-2, giving the Utes their second straight, 5-2, win on the road.

"Yale came out and really put us to the test," said assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. "They played a tough match, but our guys fought hard and competed well and we came up with another good victory at sea level."

The Utes began the day with momentum from their match against Pacific yesterday. Utah took the doubles point to put them up 1-0 in the match. Wes Hancock and Phillip Eilers in the No. 1 spot defeated Michael Caldwell and Calvin Bennett, 8-5.

In the No. 2 position Timmy Allin and John Taylor topped Conner Dawson and Erik Blumenkranz, 8-6. Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano in the No. 3 slot fell, 8-4, to Joel Samaha and Josh Lederman.

The Bulldogs came back in the No. 4 singles position with Samaha defeating Taylor, 6-3, 6-1, tying the match at 1-1.

Junior Timmy Allin earned back the Utes lead topping Lederman, 6-0, 6-3, in the No. 6 spot. Phillip Eilers gave Utah their third point with a win against Dawson in the No. 2 slot, 6-2, 6-2.

In the No. 1 slot Wes Hancock clinched the match for Utah with his win against Caldwell, 6-4, 6-2, putting Utah up 4-1.

The Bulldogs earned their second point in the No. 3 position with Bennett defeating Suriano, 6-1, 6-4. Jason Smits closed the match out with a win against Blumenkranz, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 5 spot.

Utah will close their spring break with a match against Princeton (6-6) tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. in San Diego.
