BOISE, Idaho- The University of Utah men's tennis team (7-4) upset No. 27-ranked Boise State (7-5), 4-3, Saturday at the Boas Tennis Center. John Taylor clinched the match in the No. 4 spot with his tie-breaking win in the third set against Cristian Hodel, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1).

"This was a great win for the guys on the team," said head coach F.D. Robbins. "I am proud of their effort, they came out and fought hard. This was a great win for the program."

The Utes started the day with an advantage over the Broncos sweeping them in doubles. In the No. 2 position Timmy Allin and Taylor topped Matt Solomon and Stanley Sarapanich, 8-3.

Delivering the clinching match in the No. 1 slot Phillip Eilers and Wes Hancock defeated Kean Feeder and James Meredith, 8-6. Closing out the doubles sweep for Utah was Benito Suriano and Stephen Jacobs defeating Hodel and Freddy Walsh, 8-7.

With the Utes up, 1-0, Allin in the No. 6 singles position added onto the lead topping Walsh, 6-1, 6-2, putting the Utes up, 2-0. The Broncos answered with three wins in the No. 1, 2, and 3 positions. Wes Hancock was defeated by No. 57-ranked Feeder, 6-3, 6-3 at the No.1 slot, Othman Zerouali-Ouariti fell to Meredith in the No. 3 spot, 7-5, 6-1, tying the match at, 2-2.

The No. 62-ranked Boise State singles player Clancy Shields put the Broncos up, 3-2, defeating Eilers in the No. 2 position, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Utah returned to win in the No. 5 spot, Jason Smits defeated Sarapanich, 1-6, 6-4, 7-6(1), tying it up at, 3-3, when Taylor clinched the match.

This win gives Utah men's tennis head coach F.D. Robbins his 300th win in his 23 years coaching for the Utes.
