IRVINE, Cali- The No. 68 University of Utah men's tennis team (5-4) was upset by UC Irvine (1-5), 6-1, Sunday afternoon at the Anteater Tennis Stadium in Irvine, Cali.

UC Irvine came out sweeping the Utes in doubles capturing the first point of the day. At the No. 1 spot Wes Hancock and Phillip Eilers were upset by Wes Miller and Khunpol Issara, 8-6, this was the first match at the No. 1 doubles position Utah has lost this season. John Taylor and Timmy Allin were also defeated, 8-6, by Jon Kazarian and Zac Tsai in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 position Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano fell to Gautam Vaidyanthan and Steven Henderson, 8-3.

In singles Eilers earned the Utes their only point of the day defeating Henderson in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 4-6, in the No. 2 spot. Wes Hancock took his match with Miller in the No. 1 position to three sets coming up short, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. In the No. 3 spot Suriano was defeated by Fabian Matthews, 6-2, 6-2. John Taylor fell to Issara in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 4 position. In the No. 5 spot Othman Zerouali-Ouariti was defeated by Stephen Stege, 6-3, 6-3. Timmy Allin was defeated by Tsai, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.

The Utes will go on the road again next weekend for two matches. Both matches will take place in Boise, Idaho, the first match is against Boise State on Friday, Feb. 27. The Utes will then take on Idaho Saturday.
