SALT LAKE CITY- The No. 67 University of Utah men's tennis team (5-2) defeated Northern Arizona (1-7), 7-0, giving the Utes a five game winning streak at home.

"It is good to be back home and get two wins under our belt before next week's trip to southern California," said assistant coach Roeland Brateanu. "NAU came out firing in doubles and they played very tough, but we found ways to win and carried the momentum over into singles."

Starting out strong in doubles for Utah was the team of Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano playing in the No. 3 spot. They were the first to finish defeating Jaco Visgie and Brelin Powell, 8-2.

Timmy Allin teamed up with John Taylor in the No. 2 position clinching the doubles point by topping Chris Arena and David Flodberd, 8-4, putting the Utes up, 1-0.

At the No. 1 doubles spot Wes Hancock and Phillip Eilers started out slow and were down, 0-4, before winning their first game. The pair gained momentum to take the lead, 7-6, and made a come back to win against Robin Pezzutto and Andrew Reiff, 9-7.

In singles, Othman Zerouali-Ouariti played in the No. 4 spot and kept the Utes ahead in the match, 2-0, topping Powell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Hancock played in the No. 1 spot against Reiff, winning the first set, 6-2, and the second set, 6-4, setting up Corbin Benson in the No. 6 position to clinch the match at, 4-0, defeating Ben Lantz, 6-0, 6-0.

At the No. 2 spot Eilers defeated Flodberg, 6-3, 6-1. Stephen Jacobs gave the Utes their sixth point in the No. 5 spot against Arena, 6-1, 7-5.

John Taylor played against Pezzutto in the No. 3 position. Taylor won the first set, 6-4, lost the second set, 2-6, and made a come back in the tie-breaker to win, 10-4.

Up next, the Utes will go on the road to take on UC Santa Barbara Friday, Feb. 20.
