Utah Falls to San Diego State, 55-49

SAN DIEGO - Despite coming back from several double-digit deficits, the Utah women's basketball team fell to San Diego State, 55-49, at Cox Arena on Wednesday evening.
With the loss, Utah (16-7, 9-1 MWC) snapped a 12-game winning streak and a record 25-game regular season Mountain West Conference winning streak.
Down by 13 points, 30-17, in the first half, the Utes held SDSU (17-5, 8-2 MWC) scoreless through the final four and a half minutes to cut the deficit to two at halftime, 30-28, an 11-0 run. Morgan Warburton had five points of the run while Halie Sawyer hit two baskets for four points.
In the second half, after Kalee Whipple hit a three-point basket with 11:41 left to cut the deficit to three, 42-39, before San Diego State went on a 10-0 run to regain the lead. The Aztecs would pull away by as many as 11 points before winning by a final score of 55-49.
Turnovers were the biggest culprit for the Utes, as they turned the ball over 24 times in the contest. Of those turnovers, 15 came in the first half and SDSU converted them into 26 points. Utah also shot 37-percent from the floor (27.6-percent in the second half), their lowest shooting percentage in Mountain West Conference play this year.
Whipple led Utah with 20 points while Warburton was also in double figures with 11 points. Sawyer led the Utes with nine rebounds.
Parris Johnson scored a team-high 19 points for San Diego State. Quenese Davis and Jene Morris each had 11 points on the night.
The Utes remain in first-place in the conference with a one-game lead over San Diego State.
Utah returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 14, at Air Force.
