COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Kalee Whipple and Morgan Warburton combined to score 40 points against Air Force as the Utah women's basketball team defeated the Falcons, 57-32.
Whipple had a team-high 23 points while Warburton tallied 17. Katie King just missed a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Janita Badon came away with three steals.
The day started off a little rough as an electrical problem at Clune Arena forced the game to be delayed and moved to the USAFA Preparatory School gymnasium.
Both teams started off slow, with the Utes up just 5-0 five minutes into the game. With Utah down by two points, 11-9, with 11 minutes left in the first half, Whipple started a 12-0 run with a layup to pull the Utes ahead, 21-11. Whipple would also have two three-point baskets in the run, while Warburton scored two free-throws and a layup. The Utes would lead 25-16 at halftime behind 12 first-half points from Whipple.
In the second half, with Utah up 28-20, the Utes went on a 15-3 run to take a 43-23 lead with 10 minutes remaining. Whipple had five points of the run while King also scored two baskets for four points. Utah would out-score Air Force 32-16 in the second half.
The Utes held the Falcons to 21.2-percent shooting in the game, the lowest percentage it has held an opponent this year.
Kim Kreke led Air Force with 11 points.
The Utes return home on Wednesday, Feb. 18, to take on Colorado State at 7:00 p.m.
